DV in the Arts, part 10 & 10.5

This month is a two-fer.

First, I found a video from the band Rage Against that should've been with last month's post about bullying. "Make it stop" was released in 2011 as the second single from Rise Against's sixth studio album, Endgame. It was inspired by a series of tragic teen suicides in September 2010, including Tyler Clementi, Billy Lucas, Harrison Chase Brown, Cody J. Barker, Seth Walsh, Felix Sacco, Asher Brown, Caleb Nolt, and Raymond Chase, all of whom faced bullying related to their sexual orientation. NOTE- that was JUST IN ONE MONTH. Stress to teens that we're all in a state of flux and it's ok for them to be themselves- even if it's weird to others.

Lead singer Tim McIlrath wrote the song to respond to these events and to support the

It Gets Better Project, aiming to provide hope to LGBTQ+ youth- but applicable to all.

Have a listen. Enlighten yourself... and others.

This month's actual selection is from the 813 Music Group- Dre D One f/Ashawn and a song called "Shine". It's a small label in Tampa, FL and there's bio available on the artists, but nothing posted on the song. From the author: "this song was made for all of the women and men who have suffered domestic violence over the years. 813 would like to help end Domestic Violence and help bring peace back into a very troubled world. END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!!!!"

A big message from a small label for a great cause. Have a listen
